Introduction:
The satellite camp is designed to bring ATC Goaltending to MHA’s and communities that are interested in gaining more knowledge about the most important position in hockey. The duration of the camp is up to the host association/group. There are Evening, Weekend and Week Long options all with varying features and benefits.
On Ice Overview:
Again, the on ice component will differ depending on the duration of the camp. The topics covered on the ice will remain the same as ATC prides itself upon simplifying the position of goal. The pillars of ATC are skating, crease movement, save techniques and recovery. Those four staples of goaltending will be covered during the camp no matter what the time frame is.
Off Ice Overview:
Once off the ice there are a couple different areas to address. The first area is dry land training; the ATC staff will run the athletes through a series of exercises that will impact the key areas necessary for goaltenders. The key areas are as follows: leg power, core strength, flexibility, hand eye coordination, aerobic and anaerobic fuel systems and over speed training.
The second area is the ATC lecture series; ATC and its staff will address the athlete’s on varying topics such as: mental preparation, goal setting, future hockey plans, transitional tactics, power play tactics, and balancing hockey and being a young adult.
Upon conclusion of the Satellite Camp students will demonstrate the ability to:
- move in their crease effectively
- get into the proper first position
- make controlled first saves
- recover from first save effectively
- Demonstrate advanced skating, positional and recovery skills
- Demonstrate an understanding of the mental and physical demands of playing goal
- Control their zone with effective communication and puck handling skills
